Ficlet: We Are Sailing…

Title: We Are Sailing…

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Ianto, Jack

Rating: G

Spoilers: Nada.

Summary: Jack’s treating Ianto to an afternoon out on the water…

Word Count: 268

Written For: My own prompt ‘Any, any, Pedal boats on a boating lake,’ at [community profile] fic_promptly.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters. They belong to the BBC.

Ianto couldn’t help laughing. “When you said you were taking me sailing, this really isn’t what I thought you meant!”

Jack grinned back at him. “Well, we could rent a yacht and go out on the bay if you really wanted, but that would involve lifejackets, wrestling with the sails and rigging, and a lot of other stuff that isn’t anywhere near as relaxing as this. Besides, we couldn’t indulge in an ice cream out there. Now, are you coming or not?”

“Well, when you put it like that… You’re the Captain, I guess I should follow your lead.” Ianto gave Jack a cheeky wink.

“Quite right too, or you’ll be walking the plank! All aboard!”

Following Jack, ice cream in one hand, Ianto stepped onto their boat and settled into his seat.

“Ready? Then away we go!” Jack leaned back in his own seat, licked his ice cream, and started pedalling, steering them out onto the boating lake among the other couples and families making the most of the sunny spring weather by messing about on the water.

It was, Ianto reflected, a much more soothing way of spending their afternoon off than he’d been anticipating, and it had the added benefit that if they were needed back at the Hub, they could be back on shore in a matter of minutes. He hoped there’d be no need for that though; they’d earned a break and Ianto intended to enjoy this sailing trip to the full. Who needed fancy yachts anyway when you could take to the open water in a pedal boat shaped like a swan?

How fun! :D I always wanted to ride in one of those things.
We used to when I was little, me and my sister in a peddle boat, or more often a paddle boat, oh the boating lake. It's been over 40 years though, I don't even know if you can rent boats there now. Probably have to wear life jackets these days to go in them.It used to be such fun!

Thank you!
Lovely summer activity for those two lol. Jack has a point about yachts tho.

Great ficlet.
Yachts look like really hard work, lol! Jack prefers to take it easy on days off.

Thank you!

Gosh, I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid. They do lend themselves to the romantic couple though *comes over all warm and fuzzy*

I don't even know if they exist any more, but they are kinda romantic and they struck me as a 'Jack' thing ;)
]Thank you!
Funny, and this sort of 'sailing' really is more easier XD :) <3<3
It's the kind of relaxation they need after a hard week. Anything else would be too strenuous!

Thank you!
it brings back memories, though distant, it is true ...
in sea and lake.
it was nice!
Ah, to be young and enjoy those things again, if only for a day!

Thank you!
Yes, I would also regain the enthusiasm of youth. Often your stories allow me to remember the small moments of happiness.
These days, I find that everything becomes difficult and hard. I struggle to motivate myself and find things that make me happy, make me want.

News around the world, the weather always sad (it rains every day for at least a month and more !! not always a lot but the sun is often present with little gray clouds, and then the wind refreshes all)
I think this is partly because I am in middle of my life and my hormones are changing. I recently stop treatment I was taking for years and I felt an improvement, but it takes time.
Fingers crossed that the weather gets back and I can enjoy the sun to recharge my batteries !!

thank you for your stories !!
I know how you feel. Ever since I left 50 beg=hind I've been slowing down. Tired all the time, aching joints, days fly by without me getting much done... Writing takes me to happier places.

It's been raining every day here too. It's cold and miserable most days. I just want some warm, sunny weather.
