Drabble: Monster Mash

Title: Monster Mash

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Ianto, Jack, Tosh, Team

Rating: PG

Written For: Challenge 269 – There’s A Monster At The End Of This at tw100

Spoilers: None.

Summary: Another monster comes through the rift…

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

A/N: More the end of a monster than a monster at the end.

The rift alert indicated something big - and from the readings, very nasty if Jack was any judge. The team geared up appropriately and headed for the site of the incursion, ready to deal with the monster.

On arrival, they leapt from the SUV, weapons at the ready, only to stop and stare.

“As monsters go, that’s a bit of an anticlimax,” Ianto stated.

Tosh checked her readings and shrugged. “I guess even something that well armoured doesn’t handle being ejected from the rift fifty feet above ground level too well.”

“It’s pancaked,” Owen agreed. “Better break out the shovels.”

The End

Comments

Oops! Well, that saved the team some subduing/restraining/killing. Now all that's left is the clean up. (And I bet I know who gets to do that!)
Ianto is putting his foot down (carefully, to avoid any monster bits). Everyone helps with this or they don't get coffee!

Sometimes the rift is helpful, lol!

Thank you.
Poor alien! Good for team!
A quick end for a hostile monster - sometimes the rift does them a good (if rather mess) turn. At least it never got the chance to harm anyone.

Thank you.
Lol the title is quite literal. Heh, maybe they can make monster soup.
Weevil ready meals, lol!

The title was unavoidable....

Thank you.
Hehe nice use of the prompt.
Poor alien though. But it saved the team having to decide what to do with it.
Saved any poor random members of the public, too - assuming there was no one standing where the alien landed!

Torchwood have to catch a break sometimes, there must be times when whatever comes though the rift is neutralised by its trip!

Thank you =)
I bet this happens a lot. It does seem odd that the rift would just set aliens down carefully when they come through.

OT - are you have any problems getting your friends' page to load?

Yeah, that's what I thought. The rift doesn't have a set place to open, so why would it always have to open at ground level?

LJ is giving me a lot of trouble tonight, loading all different pages. It takes a long time and I keep getting error messages.
Ew...LOL! At least Ianto had them come prepared with shovels.
Ianto keeps the SUV fully stocked with all the equipment they might need - you never know when you might need shovels!

Thank you =)
nice! at least no so much to struggle on, only clean-up!
This was one of their easier monster retrievals - no chasing and capturing, just use the shovels, lol!

Thank you. =)
I am lovin' these monster endings from all you clever peoples. And the titles are as good as the rest.
Thank you! Couldn't resist the title =P

I feel a little sorry for this particular monster though.
I'd rather shovel it up than have to fight it!
I'm sure the team agree with you - that's the easiest 'capture' they've ever made!

Thank you!
OH, poor alien!
Yeah, but it was quick. It would have been dangerous if it had survived to wander the streets of Cardiff and the team would have had to find a way to kill it anyway, so it's probably for the best and the alien suffered less this way.

Thank you
Oh poor monster, but at least the team didn't have to battle it.
It was probably a quicker end for the monster than if the team had to battle it, so I guess the ift was merciful in that respect. It's always sad when an alien, however dangerous, loses its life by ending up on earth, unless it showed up here deliberately with plans for conquest. This one was just an unfortunate victim of the rift, though the team are breathing a collective sigh of relief - it really did look formidable, even after its crash landing. they wouldn't want to meet it alive!

Thank you.
